But what IS news? As a journalist with 30 years' experience, I consider news to be 'the facts'. But more than 70 million people voted for Trump, and they are clearly not interested in facts. The media industry has a real fight on its hands to regain trust around the world. Journalism is largely unbiased at local and regional levels, but at national level it is always seen through a political filter. Social media carries news and opinions from many reputable sources, but also from too many conspiracy theorists and the like. I think we have to concentrate on the relationship between people and the facts, and trusting the word of experts, before anything else.
